Guided Snowshoe Walks and Treks - Courchevel & Meribel

Courchevel, Savoie, FranceSnowshoe walks make a great option for non-skiers or skiers wanting a break from skiing. Snowshoeing can be as relaxed or as energetic as you wish and is suitable for all ages. All the trips are “private” so the outing is entirely tailored to your wishes: as an individual, a group of friends or as a family.

Morning and afternoon outings explore areas closer to Courchevel and Meribel but explore areas away from the ski slopes where peace and solitude can still be found. Far from the madding crowd! There is the opportunity to see some of the wildlife or at least the tracks that they have left behind. The tracks of foxes, mountain hares, wild boar (sanglier) and other wildlife are frequently seen. A chance to learn about the wild mountain environment.

Day trips offer the opportunity for lunch at authentic mountain refuges and the possibility of seeing the ibex (bouquetin) and the more elusive chamois in the Vanoise National Park.

Itineraries

Below is a sample of the itineraries on offer but all the itneraries are personalised. I will meet you at your hotel, chalet, appartment or other agreed meeting point.

Morning / Afternoon (typical duration: 2 hr 30 - 3 hrs)

  • Lac de Rosiere (Courchevel 1650) - Level: Gentle. The Lac de Rosiere is a beautiful lake close to Courchevel 1650 where the hustle and bustle of the ski resorts is soon left behind. Thread you way down through the pine woods in the powder snow to this enchanting lake. After having had a chance to drink in the clear mountain air we follow the banks of a small stream. A gentle ascent takes us back to the resort.
  • Les Cotilles (nr Meribel Village & La Tania). Overlooking the valley des Allues a gentle ascent to a great viewpoint. Wending through the pine forests and enchanting clearings in the woods before a gentle descent in the powder.
  • Cret du Praslin (Courchevel 1650) - Level: Moderate. This walk crosses the snow covered meadows before ascending gently through the pine woods to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Valley des Avals. We follow the crest before a descent in the powder brings us back to the resort.
  • Pramurel - Plan du Vah (Courchevel 1850 / 1650). Starting from close to the Altiport of Courchevel 1850 the route rises very gently before a descent brings us to the valley and a path that winds its way amongst trees and close to the snow covered stream.
  • Lac Tueda (Meribel / Mottaret) -

Full day (typical duration 6 - 8 hrs)

  • Champagny en Haut - day walk with lunch. Level: Gentle. The valley is a hidden gem where there is often the opportunity to see the Ibex (Bouquetin). A chance too to taste and buy some of the famous Beaufort cheese directly from a farmer.
  • Vallon du Fruit - Refuge du Saut - day walk with typical Savoyard picnic lunch.
  • Col de la Lune - day walk with lunch at a mountain hut. A rising traverse leads to the refuge and the Col de la Lune. Enjoy lunch with a stunning panorama and views of Mont Blanc.
