The Bauges - Hotel Based

The Bauges - Hotel Based

The Bauges are situated between the lac du Bourget and lac d'Annecy. To the south and west the Bauges are surrouned by dramatic limestone cliffs. The alpine pastures (alpages) are overlooked by l'Arcalod (2217m), the highest mountain in the Bauges.

The Bauges are classified a Regional Natural Park which has helps to preserve the unspoilt countryside with its many traditional activities and a superb flora and fauna.

Cows and goats are a part of the landscape in the alpine pastures descending to lower fields and meadows during the winter. The Bauges is rightly proud of its well-known cheese, the "Tomme des Bauges" with A.O.C. (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) status produced either directly at the farm or in one of the "fruitiere" or dairies in the Bauges.

The south facing slopes of the Bauges are home to vines that thrive on the sunny slopes.
